TOWII is in the pre-feasibility study stage for a new wind power test centre in Hillerup, located between Ribe and Esbjerg. The plan here is to erect offshore wind turbines on which tests of materials and performance can be continuously run.
The centre will make it possible for various wind turbine manufacturers to test wear and tear levels, and to experiment with different solutions before the giant turbines are installed at sea. It’s technically more efficient to run tests on land rather than having to climb the turbines on deep water. The government wants to build more green energy production, which is why facilities are needed for rapid testing to ensure the turbines reach target production levels.
Hillerup Enge is perfect for such a test centre. Firstly: there’s plenty of wind, and secondly: the area is sparsely populated. The need for dialogue with residents who may either need to move or accept the distant view of giant turbines is therefore much less than in other suitable areas.
TOWII is working to create global solutions locally. That means we consult local residents at an early stage in the process. We already have a good relationship established at Hillerup. We’re in dialogue with the people who live there, involving them in the process. We take each other seriously in pursuit of Denmark’s ambition to expand its green energy.
